As prophesied by Ahijah (1 Kings 11:31-35), the house of Israel was divided into two kingdoms. This division, which took place approximately 975 B.C., after the death of Solomon and during the reign of his son, Rehoboam, came about as the people revolted against heavy taxes levied by Solomon and Rehoboam. The chart below, starts after the kingdom had split and Rehoboam was king in Judah and Jeroboam was king in Israel.
The majority of the prophets addressed themselves to the Sothern Kingdom of Judah. Isaiah, Joel and Micah preached to Judah prior to the Babylon exile in 587 B.C. Then Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Habakkuk and Zephaniah preached at the time of the fall of Judah and its exile to Babylon. Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi prophesied to Judah after they returned to the land. Hosea prophesied to the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Amos, a shepherd from a Judean village called Tekoa also warned Israel of coming destruction if they did not forsake their idols and turn to the living God. Both preached to sinful Israel prior to the Assyrian captivity and exile in 722 B.C. never to be restored. Jonah and Nahum prophesied in the Assyrian capitol of Nineveh. Daniel prophesied in Babylon at the time of its fall to the Persians, and Obadiah preached to Edom.
This chart attempts to demonstrate the relative timeline between the kings of Judah and Israel and some of the more significant named prophets that ministered during their respective reigns. The dates may vary slightly depending on the author you read.1This table was adapted from https://craigtowens.com/2014/07/16/israels-kings-prophets/
